Alexander Ling
Jane Harris is an experienced choir leader and Director of Songways, based in Bath, and an Old Member of Corpus Christi College. Jane teaches by ear and loves to explore songs in different ways to enrich and deepen the singing experience. She has a clear, inclusive and enabling teaching style, uncovers the best in singers’ voices and draws people together with heartfelt, resonant singing. Jane has a rich, vibrant voice and has released an album of her own songs, inspired by the natural world – One touch of nature. Jane performs with her own vocal ensemble, Rolling Harmony.
“An exceptional teacher with a wonderful choice of songs”
Alexander Edward Ling is a musician with extensive experience throughout the profession. In London he conducted several choirs including the All Saints’ Festival Choir, South London Singers and the Choir of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Catford. With his passion for Anglican church music, Alexander was also Assistant Director of Music at St. John’s where he sung tenor, played the organ and composed for the choir. He also co-leads a Madrigals weekend every year in Cornwall, in which he loves to draw out the simple beauty in otherwise intricate repertoire. Alexander is also a prize-winning composer, piano accompanist and an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
“I am thrilled to be joining Jane for what will no doubt be a sublime weekend singing great music — music matched in beauty and enhanced by the fabulous Cambridge chapels.”
REPERTOIRE
The repertoire will include original compositions by both Jane and Alex, and songs from a wide range of harmony singing traditions. For example, American folk hymns and spirituals, early canons, South African choral music and sacred songs. Songs will be taught by ear with some scores provided. Develop your voice and discover new singing styles.
