Thirty singers enjoyed a rewarding workshop, Lift up your Voice, led by Jane Harris in the delightful courtyard at the Ammerdown Centre, which turned out to be a perfect socially distanced outdoor singing venue. For many of the singers it was their first time singing with others in person since the Covid lockdown. Beginning with chords and interweaving scales it was wonderful to hear the blend of voices interspersed with birdsong. Songs included Jubilate Deo, a vibrant six part 16th century round which rang round the space, Jane’s new song Time to be here, written in the lockdown and Hallelujah for the joy, a joyous gospel song. Sunshine and showers were forecast but the sunshine won through.

The workshop was followed by a concert by Rolling Harmony, performing their second ever gig – eighteen months after the first! The rich and varied programme included new songs by Jane, traditional and contemporary English and American harmony songs and an exquisite Croatian love song. The Rolling Harmony band added an extra dimension to several songs – Jane on fiddle, Tim on plucked bass and Giles on guitar and banjo.
