Eighty Songways singers had the joy and privilege of singing in the beautiful setting and superb acoustics of Bath Abbey on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 May 2018. The programme was the same both days, sung by two different sets of singers from the three Songways choirs.
The programme of vibrant songs from a wide range of harmony singing traditions was thoroughly enjoyed by appreciative audiences. It included soaring 16th century sacred canons, classic gospel songs from the African American and Appalachian old time traditions (with banjo and fiddle), the uplifting To the hills I will lift mine eyes by Brendan Taaffe (US), a glorious Kyrie Eleison from Corsica, a lively South African song, and two songs by Jane Harris – the popular Everybody needs beauty and Jane’s new composition, May you go well.
We also had fun performing at The Bath Festival Party in the City on Friday 18 May, opening the evening at Widcombe Social Club. Thanks to the club for the invitation and the review:
It was a beautiful performance covering a range of song styles… a real trip around the world of music! We really appreciated Songways taking part and starting the event off with such pizzazz.
New singers are always welcome in Songways choirs. Please contact Jane if you are interested in singing with us.
