The 2022 Lundy singing week was hugely enjoyed by 24 singers, led by Jane Harris – a week of singing, harmony, sun, swimming, fun and friendship. Jane taught several of her own songs written on Lundy, including First Light (composed on the island in 2020 and being sung there for the first time). We also enjoyed a wide range of harmony songs reflecting the beauty of the natural world. We sang in the newly restored church, in sheltered spots around the island including the natural amphitheatre of the VC Quarry, at the top of the Old Light with a 360 degree view of the island, and in the amazingly resonant stairwell of the Old Light tower. We gave a concert in the church which was thoroughly enjoyed by a full audience of day and staying visitors.
Comments from the singers:
The most wonderful week
Great leadership, skilled teaching and extraordinary enthusiasm from Jane which inspired us all
Outstanding organisation and great accommodation
Led with such warmth, sense of inclusion and generosity of spirit
Excellent balance of structured and free time
An unforgettable experience
We stayed on the island in the excellent accommodation provided by the Landmark Trust, which has managed Lundy for over 50 years. We had several hearty group meals in the Marisco Tavern and enjoyed impromptu singing and tunes in the Tavern in the evenings. We enjoyed free time to walk, swim, relax and explore the extraordinary beauty of the island.
Singers came from Somerset, Wiltshire, Cornwall, Shropshire, Hereford, Cambridge… and Toronto!
The next Songways Lundy singing week will be in 2024. Please join our mailing list to ensure you receive details.
