Fifty-five singers gathered for the 2015 event, Thurs 26 – Sun 29 March. We were based at Corpus Christi College, in the heart of Cambridge, singing in the Chapel, and visiting four other colleges to sing during the weekend: Emmanuel, Queens’, Sidney Sussex and St John’s. The weekend was led by Jane Harris, Director of Songways, with guest tutor, Rowena Whitehead, and brought together singers from a wide area including Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon, Bristol, London, Manchester, Norwich, Glasgow, Perthshire and Dublin.
It was an immensely rewarding time combining the delights of the different acoustics and settings of each of the colleges and the sheer fun and enjoyment of bringing everyone together through the singing. All the songs and harmonies were taught by ear. Our last evening culminated in a wonderful private feasting dinner at Fitzbillies restaurant, with entertainment provided by members of the group.
Many thanks to all the singers, to Rowena Whitehead for joining us as a guest tutor, Julia Williams for assisting with the organisation, David Lewis Baker for photography, and to all the colleges for a warm welcome.
Here are some comments from singers:
