On a glorious spring day, nearly 50 singers enjoyed a morning singing in the exceptional hillside garden at Iford Manor, including the magical cloisters, followed by picnics in the sunshine and a stroll along the beautiful valley to Farleigh Hungerford. In the afternoon we sang at Farleigh Castle – in the ruined Lady Tower, the walled garden and in the ancient chapel.
Songs included lively spring songs, songs to celebrate and savour the beauty of the natural world, the gospel classic Shine on me, and the medieval, Sumer is Icumen In, which could conceivably have been sung in the castle in its heyday. All the songs and harmonies were taught by ear on the day by Jane Harris, Director of Songways.
“A truly memorable day… lovely surroundings, sunshine and such well chosen songs.”
“Amazing… a triumph!”
