Cornwall singing workshop with Jane Harris, Director of Songways
A wonderful group of singers from West Cornwall and beyond gathered for the whole day workshop with Jane Harris in Marazion, hosted by Pip Wright and Kana Kernow.
Jane taught several of her new compositions from the last two years. Her new setting of Christina Rossetti’s poem, Fly away fly away over the sea, sun loving swallow, for summer is done… opened the workshop. This was followed by Time to be here, which draws on the words of Julian of Norwich, All will be well, all will be well and all manner of things shall be well. We then enjoyed group improvisation, creating a moving soundscape and ending in a beautiful stillness. Jane’s Alleluia Amen followed, with interweaving voice parts and rich harmonies, and Draw close to the heart of the world, inspired by the words of pioneering conservationist, John Muir. We ended the day with Jane’s In the beauty of the world, find rest and be free, a favourite of the local Cornish singers from Pip Wright’s choirs, Levow an Bys and Dawn Chorus.
Comments from the singers:
