Singing workshop with John Harrison from the USA
Over 50 singers gathered at St Swithin’s Church, Bath on Sat 15 Nov to sing with John Harrison, a dynamic choral director, workshop leader and composer from Vermont, USA. Beginning with a fun rhythmic spoken round and classic gospel songs, John went on to teach us his own beautiful composition, “Many Waters” written after a period of intense flooding in Vermont a couple of years ago.
Here are some comments from singers:
“Excellent teacher, loved the songs”
“Really enjoyed John’s teaching style”
“A full and rewarding day’s singing”
John brings to all his teaching a deep love of choral singing and its power to create community, as well as a lot of humour. He has worked with Larry Gordon and Patty Cuyler’s Village Harmony for 16 years, and Brendan Taaffe’s Turtle Dove Harmony for the last 4 years. His workshops bring together African-American gospel, jazz, blues, shape-note, rock & roll, country and appalachian music to create songs with great harmonies, rhythmically sung and rich with story.
We look forward to John’s return to the UK. Please join our mailing list to ensure you receive details.
