A special participatory singing event led by Jane Harris, Director of Songways

Eighty singers gathered for the first Soul Soundings in the magnificently restored Bath Abbey. After the long absence of singing during the Covid lockdown, it was wonderful to hear our voices soar in the glorious open space. Beginning with single tones, we experienced the extraordinary resonance of this ancient and sacred building, hearing the natural harmonics ringing above our voices. Jane taught her new Alleluia Amen, composed in March 2021, with soaring and interweaving vocal lines, and the vibrant 16th century round, Jubilate Deo, with our voices spiralling round the space. There were also opportunities to sing freely and improvise, held in the group sound and the exceptional acoustics.
